PIPING DESIGN HANDBOOK Piping and Pipeline Engineering: Design, Construction, Maintenance, Integrity, and Repair

AAA Drafting Services gets involved in many projects where a piping designer is required. Some piping design projects might involve matching valves and actuators with different types of ansi flanges or creating custom fittings for gas piping hot tapping devices using weld neck flanges.

Piping Layout

We have done numerous piping process system layouts for dionized water systems. These layouts include the stainless steel tanks, valves and piping components and heat exchangers that make up the entire piping process system. We are familiar with standard piping components and pipe sizes with respect to pipe schedules and standard elbow radii. If you have a piping process system in mind, we would be glad to help.

ANSI Flanges

We have developed libraries of standard ANSI flanges for use with large and small diameter valve-actuator combinations. A single part file can be used to generate all standard flanges in addition to special flange designs created by the piping designer.

Hot Tapping

We have experience designing gas piping tools and "hot taps" for the Petrochemical industry. Large diameter weld neck flanges and gaskets and piping sections put together into models which can be adjusted for different diameters or types of pipe drilling and pipe cutting tools. These models allow a manufacturer to standardize his manufacturing processes across a whole range of different sizes of fitting.

Pipe Pigging

Our experience includes 3D models and drafting for complex pipe pigging tools that incorporate housings, power supplies, magnetometers and electronics for highly advanced pipe data acquisition systems. These pipe pigs have been laid out to travel at speeds of 60 mph through straight gas piping sections and through back-to-back 1-1/2 radius elbows without becoming trapped.

Pipe Headers

We have 3D models of pipe headers and intercooler piping which can be driven by the number and diameter of outlet or inlet pipes and by the header pipe diameter. Header pipes can be rectangular tubes with end caps or conventional schedule piping with purchased pipe end caps. These header models keep all the manufacturing revisions current by applying them simulteaneously across all types of header , if required. Siliarly models can be created for intercooler piping and heat exchanger fintube components.

Valves and Actuators

We do valve and actuator proposal drawings for numerous petrochemical and nuclear facilities using their drafting standards. Using ball valves, gate valves, butterfly valves and both electric and pneumatic el-o-matic actuators and bettis scotch yoke style actuators.

Piping Suite AutoFLOW, AutoORTHO & AutoISO. When you purchase the Piping Suite you get all three of PROCAD’s piping applications in one affordable bundle. The suite includes all the required modules to setup projects, generate piping specs, draw P&IDs and piping isometrics as well as piping, structural steel and civil drafting layouts.

  • The F-35, Joint strike search and rescue fighter
The recent 16 billion dollar purchase of F-35 stealth fighters is a triumph in buying American . While Canada needs more search and rescue planes to patrol the oceans the Canadian government decides to purchase stealth fighters. One wonders what kind of a changing role the Canadian air force has up its sleeve for these high tech seek and destroy weapons.

Perhaps the stealth and speed will allow our pilots to sneak up on sailors before they even get shipwrecked. The pilot can launch missiles at the pesky shoals or reefs blowing them up, preventing any marine disaster from ever happening.

Canadian Pilots flying the joint strike fighter solo over the arctic are assured that the fighters engine is more “robust” and unlikely to fail. Much like the Titanic was unsinkable. It will be cold comfort to a our pilots, reflecting on their emergency manual which said “relax, your jet engine is robust” as they eject in 50 below temperature.

Worse, the purchase of joint strike fighters protect American jobs, not Canadian ones, as the purchase of Bombardier search and rescue planes would have. Unfortunately when the Pentagon barks, we have to pay attention. This was true in the days of the Avro Arrow and now again with the F-35 joint strike fighter.
